IN the artisan tradition, we craft fine glycerin soaps for your face, body, hair and pets. We air-cure the bars for a month to develop their characteristic mildness and good lather. Hazelbrand soaps are not hard milled bars, because we dont want them to be -- we prefer their lush nature as we know they will do the best job possible to keep your skin soft and supple. We love the age-old method, made without factory machinery, with artists at work in the quiet of the farm.
This is a whole food for skin and spirit. The skin has a vital job of respiration, protection and elimination of toxins. In the Chinese tradition we are nurturing the "wei chi," the surface immune system, but the healing goes deep within. Nourishing olive oil gently forms the base. This important oil lets the skin breathe through a protective barrier; it allows the skin to exhale toxins out and draw nutrients in. But just as oils in food carry nutrients or toxins, our soaps, made from live oil will transport nutrients from your skin inward (this is why we only use the best ingredients). If you care what you put into your body, you will want to take care with what you put on your body.
Vegetables and fruits have been our first and primary cleansing materials since the beginning of time. To make these classic soaps we gather fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers at their peak: blueberries, carrots, corn, sage, cedar, rosemary and lavender, even our heirloom tomatoes are as nutritious on the skin as they are to eat.
We gather weeds, our Green Allies, for they have intense life force and skin-supportive properties. Every month of the year you will find us gathering nettles, plantain, chickweed, violets, barks, seeds or roots, as they come and go in season. We prepare these into our own herbal brew to infuse into the soaps to provide an undercurrent of sacred plant vitality and energy. We think it makes a subtle but definite difference as you experience our soap.
